Janet & I were craving Mexican food so we decided to grab lunch. Located on Eureka Rd in Southgate, Mexican Gardens is what I like to call an upgraded Mexican restaurant. I’ve been coming here over the years and they really have expanded the dining room and remodeled since my last visit over 5 years ago. You still get that authentic Mexican restaurant feel when you walk in, but they have a huge bar area, multiple dining rooms, and a great menu consisting of traditional classics and seasonal specials including Lent options. See how they ranked…..

Bean & Chorizo Botana: Refried beans & Mexican sausage smothered with melted cheese, diced tomatoes, fresh avocado slices, diced onions, green olives, and green peppers. This botana was huge and came piled high with all the fresh ingredients. I’ve always been a fan of salty green olives in Mexican dishes. The salty, spicy chorizo was a nice change from traditional beef or chicken botanas.
Cheese enchiladas: Corn tortilla dipped in homemade chili sauce, stuffed with cheese and topped with melted cheese and homemade sauce. I just had to get the cheese enchiladas because they are my favorite. I really liked the chili sauce, it tasted authentic and it was different from other restaurants. The rice was a little dry and lacked flavor, but the beans were creamy and tasty.
Mexican Gardens is a mix between authentic dishes and new school style. Service was good, and our orders came out super fast. The prices were a little more than what I am used to, but that’s understandable for a huge restaurant.
