Steelhouse Tavern

Today on the Bite Tonight: Steelhouse Tavern

Last week Josh picked Steelhouse Tavern to try out for Valentine’s Day. Located on East Long Lake Rd in Troy is a rustic, cozy tavern. One of the first things we noticed was the fireplace which created a warm ambiance in the restaurant. With a menu that features a contemporary spin on comfort food favorites and tavern classics, Steelhouse Tavern has something for every palette. See how they ranked.

Atmosphere: 3 out of 5 bites

Price: 3 out of 5 bites

Quality/Taste: 3 out of bites

Service: 2 out of 5 bites

Wow Factor: 2 out of 5 bites (versatile menu)

Grilled Bacon: Applewood smoke bacon with Makers Mark Bourbon glaze. Perfectly cooked with a divine balance of sweet and salty. A spot that offers bourbon glazed bacon as an appetizer always scores kudos in our book.

Chicken Pot Pie: Pan seared chicken, carrots, peas, green beans, bell peppers, mushrooms, Fontina cheese sauce. I was really impressed with the buttery, flaky pastry puff, but would have liked more of it. The veggies were crisp and fresh. I really liked that the cheese sauce was rich and silky like a gravy, but not as heavy. I was disappointed that the dish was not hot when it came out, but it still tasted good. It was a modern twist on a old classic and presentation was beautiful.

Mac & Cheese: Smoked Gouda, Fontina, Vermont Cheddar, Panko crust with Applewood smoked bacon. Rich, creamy mild cheese paired well with the sweet and salty from the bacon and the light crisp from the panko breadcrumbs. However, we were disappointed that the $3 bacon add on only consisted of about one piece of bacon.

Service started off good, but then seemed to slack once our food arrived. The food was good and we really liked the wide array of menu options. You could choose from something as sophisticated as a beet and goat cheese salad or have something as rustic and comforting as St. Louis ribs. The thing we enjoyed the most was the dimly lit dining room with the warmth of the fireplace in the background. It was perfect to celebrate Valentine’s Day and we didn’t have to wait for a table since we did call ahead seating. For being located in a plaza, Steelhouse Tavern was pretty decent. Another fun and enjoyable Valentine’s Day spent with my sweetie. ❤
