Today on the Bite Tonight: Kate’s Kitchen

Located in Flat Rock, MI on W Huron River Dr, is a local gem that has been a family owned favorite since the late 70’s. Famous for their homemade pies, Kate’s Kitchen is only opened for breakfast and lunch and serves up some mouth-watering country home cooking. Allison and I wanted to take our mother’s somewhere special for Mother’s Day last week and Kate’s Kitchen was perfect! See how they ranked.

Breakfast special: Two eggs over medium,  home style potatoes, and a thick piece of ham. First of all, the ham was the size of a small plate and it was absolutely amazing. Salty, with a hint of sweet, sightly browned, and just enough fat to add some moisture. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the potatoes were insane. I’m not sure if they were cooked in some delicious bacon fat or what, but they had the best flavor. Perfectly cooked with a nice outer crisp. Tip: get a double order!

Ma and I had the intention of getting a slice of pie, but we were too full and didn’t have the means to take one to go. We had a mother/daughter movie date afterwards. I will say that in the hour and a half we were there, we watched the pies fly out the door.

There’s only about 20 tables in the whole place, but it’s well worth the wait.  There’s actually an up side to waiting because you know the food is going to be on point and delicious. Kate’s Kitchen is the kind of place that knows every customer and has an incredible family feel it. The food is great, the service is good, and the quality of the home cooking is really something to write home about (or blog)! I am not ashamed to say that this was my first experience at Kate’s Kitchen because the first time you eat here is so nostalgic and meaningful. It’s just one of those places you HAVE to try. I do wish I would’ve made the trip years ago, but better late than never, right? I will definitely be back soon for a slice of the pie!
