Today on the Bite Tonight: Wing Doozy

When Josh and I were in Grand Rapids, we wanted a really great wing joint. So we did our research and all signs pointed to Wing Doozy. Voted 2014 King of Wings Champions, this little, local dive place located just outside of Downtown Grand Rapids offers around 20 different sauces and rubs. See how they ranked.

We got four flavors of boneless wings. We tried to choose a nice variety:

Left: Dave’s BBQ Doozy (medium heat, BBQ sauce mixed with hot wing sauce): Sweet and hot.

Right: Spicy Garlic Parmesan: Salty, nutty Parmesan with spicy garlic.


Left: Sweet Honey BBQ: Sweet, rich, thick, sticky BBQ. Classic!

Right: Asian Ginger: Slightly sweet with a hint of ginger. Reminded me of a sesame sauce. It’s no Asian Zing, though!


In my opinion, there are two thing that make good wings: sauce and meat. Wing Doozy has delicious chunks of lightly breaded white meat juicy chicken, but the sauce was just OK. If I could put Buffalo Wild Wing sauce on these boneless wings, they would be the best! Stop in and check em out. Keep on working on the sauce profiles and Wing Doozy can easily take over the wing nation!

Jersey's Sports Bar & Grill

Today on the Bite Tonight: Jersey’s

Located on Fort St. in Trenton, is Jersey’s. Allison and I used to frequent this sports bar & grill and we decided to stop in last night for dinner. Jersey’s opened a few years back and has daily drink and food specials. It’s is a good place to watch your favorite game or just enjoy a night out with friends. See how they ranked.

Queso Dip: Served with fresh, hot (seriously, Allison burned her lip) tortilla chips. It was nice to see a sports bar making homemade tortilla chips. The queso tasted like velveeta with a fiesta twist. It was good.

Boneless Wings (Mild): The mild sauce was buttery and delicious. These wings were not as saucy as I’d like, but still had a good flavor. The wing itself was a little small, but it wasn’t coated in all that extra chunky breading that Buffalo Wild Wings is known for. Not bad, for 10 for $7.99.

Service has always been hit or miss @ Jersey’s and it was just OK during our visit, no Wow factor. I blame that on the high staff turnover that is associated with restaurants and bars. The menu consists of a full bar, burgers, appetizers, and  salads, and sandwiches and is pretty good. Jersey’s is a good local sports bar and it’s a nice change from your neighborhood dive. Stop in and check em out.

You Wanna Pizza Me

Josh and I stopped in to this new carryout/delivery pizza joint in Eastpointe on Friday. Located on 9 Mile Rd, owner and operator, Will, opened You Wanna Pizza Me about three months ago because he wanted to make pizza’s that he would want to eat (say the name in an Italian mobster voice for the full effect). Check out the delicious and creative speciality pizzas we indulged in.

We started off with boneless wings with mild sauce: Huge pieces of gorgeous white meat chicken breast. Now, I love Buffalo Wild Wings because I’m in love with Asian Zing sauce, but most of the time you get more thick, crunchy breading then you do chicken. These wings were lightly breaded so you get that wing feel, but the chicken is still the star of the show. The mild sauce is made in house and has all that Frank’s Red Hot flavor you love from wing sauce, but wasn’t anything special. It wasn’t thick, didn’t really stick to the chicken and collected in the bottom of the container. I would’ve liked to try the Asian Sesame, but it was busy and Will forgot and made all Mild.


This is where things got a little crazy. It was hard for me to choose between the options, so we decided to get 3 different speciality pizza’s in one so we could try a little bit of each.

Readers, meet the BBQ Chicken-Chicken Cordon Bleu-Four Cheese- Parmesan, butter, and garlic crust pizza. At first we thought all the different toppings would melt into each other, but they didn’t. It was awesome!


BBQ Chicken: BBQ sauce, chicken, red onion, bacon, and premium mozzarella. Underneath all the cheese and toppings was a layer of spicy pizza sauce which was a nice compliment to the sweet BBQ drizzle. I appreciated the balance because although I love Jet’s BBQ Chicken pizza, the BBQ sauce is a little overwhelming for my taste.


Chicken Cordon Bleu: Breaded chicken, ham, Swiss cheese, and ranch sauce. The chicken was battered and deep fried, which was a surprise because I expected chicken Parmesan style breaded chicken, but it was still decent. The nutty, sweetness from the Swiss went well with the ham. The only thing I would change would be to cut the chicken into smaller pieces. Although, the huge honks of chicken make it worth your money, it makes it hard to get that perfect bite.


Four Cheese: Premium mozzarella, Muenster, cheddar, and parmesan cheeses. This was my favorite! The Muenster cheese caught my eye and I had to try it. You could really taste each individual flavor, without it being too cheesy. What I liked about the pizza was that despite the four different cheeses on each slice, it was not greasy at all!  Kudos.


The downfall is that You Wanna Pizza Me doesn’t have their own parking and we had to use the lot across the street. We also ordered fried pickles, which Will forgot as well, but after waiting over 35 min, we didn’t want to wait longer so it was no big deal. That’s the disadvantage of a one man show, but this place has a lot of potential. My tip would be to call in your order so you don’t have to wait like we did. Overall, our experience was good. The menu includes, pizza, pasta, subs, sides, wings, and salads. You Wanna Pizza Me definitely has the competitive advantage over franchises because they offer pizza with pickles as a topping. A little weird, but it’s heaven for a pickle lover like me. Stop in and try the Bacon Cheeseburger pizza today.
