The third addition to the Inlaws Hospitality group (Green Dot Stables and Johnny Noodle King) is Detroit’s Huron Room. We are coming up on the 1 year anniversary of the restaurant (doors opened Mother’s Day 2016), so I thought it was a good time to feature the Great Lakes inspired joint. Expect to find a new and improved menu full of creative seafood dishes (crab louie salad, lobster and crab nachos), burgers, and some serious comfort food (Pot Roast, City Chicken, BLT). I love that Huron Room offers Michigan made beer and wine, as well as liquor for their craft cocktails. At one point, their menus were actually printed on pieces of thin wood that smelled amazing.

Clobster Stadium Nachos: Crab, lobster, cheese sauce, house pepper, chives. A nice combo of huge chunks of rich seafood, spicy peppers, and creamy, salty cheese sauce. The chips came out piping hot, extra thick and crunchy. You could tell they were house made. The perfect tool for scooping the delicious toppings into my mouth. A very nice spin on classic nachos.

Hush Puppies: pimento cheese, house peppers, chives. I am a sucker for hush puppies so when I found these on the menu I was ecstatic. The crispy cornmeal crust was golden brown and filled with a creamy, spicy filling. The sauce was so delicious that I found myself ladling it in my mouth with my fork. I was sweet, creamy, and added a coolness to the spicy peppers. You can’t beat it for $6!

Fish Sandwich (special): Cod burger topped with lettuce, red onion, and tomato. The fish was juicy, but this sandwich wasn’t my favorite. It was good, but I would’ve liked a little more seasoning and spice. I did like that this was light and didn’t leave me feeling heavy like most burgers do.

This Great Lakes space decided to revamp their menu a couple months ago and take a different spin on things. Now you can find more than just seafood as well as lower prices. Service is always good and they offer happy hour and a brunch menu (featuring Corn Beef Hash and a Monte Crisco). If  you haven’t tried Huron Room, stop in and see for yourself.

Johnny Noodle King

Another best seller from the owners of Green Dot Stables, Johnny Noodle King is one of the few spots to score ramen in Detroit. Even though the menu has a lot of Japanese influence, Johnny Noodle King incorporates tastes from all over the world. Janet and I were lucky enough to score a seat at the counter right in front of all the action. See how they ranked.

We started off with a drink

Hitachino White Ale

“Shark Fin” Dumpling: House Made Dumpling · Shrimp · Sweet & Spicy Sauce. So good! Really fresh and light despite being fried.

Gong Bao (sauced): Chicken· Bell Pepper · Carrot · Scallion · Peanuts · Korean Chili Powder · Bean Sprouts · Garlic · Wide Rice Noodles. Spicy as shit! The Korean Chili was a little overpowering, but had good flavor. The peanuts added a nice crunch and saltiness to counteract the heat.

Southwest (brothed): Shredded Pork · Corn · Scallions · Pickled Poblano · Ricotta Salata · Cilantro. The best! If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for anything South of the border. This was everything I hoped for and then some. The broth was so flavorful and spicy without being too hot. The ricotta was a nice touch to add a creamy coolness and the fresh cilantro and corn were amazing. Who doesn’t like pickled pablanos? We went with the shredded pork versus the pork belly and it was a good choice. So tender and juicy.

After

Service was great and they were packed even on a rainy Wednesday. It was the perfect day for ramen. We only waited about 10 min, but it was definitely worth it. This isn’t your ordinary dorm room ramen. Although, they do have it on the menu (comes plain, just noodles and broth for those less adventurous). I can’t wait to go back and try the Bacon Fried Rice  and the pork belly bun. Check it out!

Green Dot Stables

As most of my followers know, I love me some Green Dot! Located on Lafayette in Detroit, MI, Green Dot Stables is a unique little bar offering some awesome food.

Tip: Try the mystery meat!

On the menu:

Gyro & Corned Beef

The Gyro was my favorite! Creamy cool tzatziki sauce slathered on top of tasty lamb. The corned beef had this tangy, slightly spicy mustard aioli which was amazing and reminded me of horseradish. It had a tiny kick that made my mouth water.

Fried Bologna & Philly Cheesesteak

I just couldn’t pass up the fried bologna! Thick cuts tasted just like kielbasa. Perfect for a Polish girl like myself. The Philly Cheesesteak was tender and juicy.

Venison Chili Cheese Fries: Better than any coney island chili cheese fries I’ve ever had.

I did try my brother’s Rabbit mystery meat with sliced sugar snap peas. It was light, lean, and delicious!

Another satisfying trip to Green Dot. If you haven’t been, you have to stop in. The menu changes so you can try new items and they offer weekly drink and mystery meat specials. Everything is priced fairly which allows you to try different things and not have to rack your brain with the menu. Don’t stress, just try it all!
