Mickey’s Pizza

Today on the Bite Tonight: Mickey’s Pizza.

Located on Fort St. in Lincoln Park, MI, Mickey’s Pizza has been a local favorite for as long as I can remember. As a child, I loved traveling to Mickey’s with my parents to pick up our pie and watch as the professionals toss the hand made dough up in the air from behind the clear glass window. A few weeks ago, my mom and I were craving that Mickey’s taste, so we ordered a pizza. See how they ranked.

Atmosphere: 3 out of 5 bites (typical carry out setting, no dining area)

Price: 4 out of 5 bites

Quality/Taste: 4.5 out of 5 bites

Service: 4.5 out of bites

Wow Factor: 4 out of 5 bites (local, mom and pop joint)

Hand tossed round: Topped with Pepperoni, onion, and green pepper with a garlic, butter, Parmesan flavored crust. The dough was perfectly cooked with a nice chew, and not greasy or soggy. Fresh ingredients and the right amount of cheese. The flavored crust was delicious and I really liked how the cheese was browned up.

Mickeys pizza

I will admit that when it comes to pizza, my favorites include B.C’s and Hungry Howie’s (yea, yea I know, a franchise)?? However, Mickey’s Pizza is a top contender. Service is good, food is even better, and the price is spot on. Plus, it’s a family owned business that has been serving the area for over 20 years. They offer coupons, delivery, and have a menu consisting of pizza, salads, grinders, and their famous Amiga bread. The only downfall is that there isn’t a website so it’s tough to find an online menu. However, their Cajun flavored crust is the best I’ve ever had! If you haven’t tried Mickey’s Pizza, you’re missing out. It’s the perfect guest for Football Sunday!

Pizza Connection

Today on the Bite Tonight: Pizza Connection

Located on Southfield Rd, right off Fort St. in Lincoln Park, MI is Pizza Connection. Pizza Connection has been a favorite of my family ever since I was younger. What I like most about Pizza Connection is that they are local, delicious, and affordable. See how they ranked.

Steak & Cheese Sub: Thinly slice steak topped with lettuce, onions, and cheese. The sub bun is slightly toasted on the outside and chewy on the inside. The steak is tender and the portion size is decent. 16 inch sub was around $8, which is pretty awesome.

When I’m looking for a nice change from chain pizza and subs, I always visit Pizza Connection. With a menu consisting of  pizza favorites, you can get slices for 99 cents. They are fast, consistent, and tasty. Service is good, also. If you haven’t tried Pizza Connection, stop in and see what you’re missing.

Cottage Inn Pizza

Today on the Bite Tonight: Cottage Inn Pizza.

I’ve seen the “coming soon” sign for Cottage Inn for weeks at the Fort St. location in Lincoln Park.  So when they finally opened their doors a couple weeks ago, I had to test it out. Ma and I called in a pizza for pick up. See how they ranked.

Atmosphere: 4 out of 5 (normal carryout pizza joint)

Price: 3 out of 5 bites

Quality/Taste: 2.5 out of 5 bites

Service: 4 out of 5 bites

Wow Factor: 0 out of 5 bites

Ham and Banana Pepper Deep Dish Pizza: The crust was very light, but I wouldn’t order a deep dish again. I ordered garlic butter, Parmesan crust and got plain. The pizza ended up being a little dry and boring towards the end because the crust was so thick. I’ll stick with Hungry Howie’s 8 corner pizza.

I do like how Cottage Inn offers gluten free options and an extensive gourmet pizza list. I will have to go back and try something besides the deep dish. Perhaps wings or a sub? It is nice to see a pizza place other than Pizza Hut or Dominoes opening up. Stop in and experience Cottage Inn for yourself.

Vito's Pizzeria

Today on the Bite Tonight: Vito’s Pizzeria.

My friend Amanda and I decided to grab lunch and we agreed to check out Vito’s. Located on Fort St in Lincoln Park, Vito’s has been a neighborhood “go to” for years. With new owners (new, but still in the same family) Vito’s is still cooking up yummy pies with that same “sweet sauce” they’re known for. See how they ranked.

Atmosphere: 2 out of 5 bites

Price: 2 out of 5 bites

Quality/Taste: 4.5 out of 5 bites

Service: 4 out of 5 bites

Wow Factor: 3 out of 5 bites

White Pizza: Feta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses with a garlic sauce. We added ham, onions and cajun crust. Delicious! Out of all the pizza I’ve had, this one ranked top 5. The pizza was cooked perfectly, had a good balance of sauce and toppings, and the cajun crust was slightly sweet and spicy. It was a little pricey since we added toppings and it was a specialty pizza, but it was worth it.

Vito’s is a good local hang out with pretty decent specials on food and drinks. Service was good, but we were the only table at 1 pm on a Sunday. Unfortunately our medium white pizza ended up costing almost $17 with tax because Vito’s nickel and dimed us, even charging $1 for two sides of ranch (our server even suggested them, but failed to mention the up charge). The pizza was pretty tasty though so I will be back for more.

Thanks for the lunch date, Mandy! It was fun.

Game Day

For the Superbowl Josh and I decided to play it safe and order pizza. I am a huge fan of Hungry Howie’s mainly because of the delicious flavored crust. And what goes better with game day then pizza? Check it out.

New Asiago Cheese Bread: Subtle Asiago cheese flavor, buttery, and cheesy. Pretty good and a good change from the classic 3 Cheeser Bread.

It even tasted great dipped in nacho cheese (store bought, not from Hungry Howie’s) and even reminded me of high school lunch.

Image

Ham & Pepperoni with Garlic Butter Cheese Crust: Delicious, cheesy, garlicy, buttery. I love that the cheese doesn’t slide off the whole piece of pizza when you take a bite.

I also made shredded chicken in a crock pot for tacos and nachos. The pictures didn’t turn out that good so I’m not posting any.

Here’s the recipe:

Crock Pot Shredded Chicken

1. Combine 2 chicken breasts, 1 packet of taco seasoning, 1/2 diced onion, 1/4 cup of chicken broth, 1/2 jar of your favorite salsa, cumin, garlic, salt and pepper in a crock pot.

2. Set it on high heat for 4-6 hours or until it pulls apart and tastes great.

3. Add more seasoning if desired.

Tip: Great for tacos, nachos, or even as a topping on homemade pizza.

As disappointing of a game, at least the food was good.

B.C.'s Pizza

B.C.’s Pizza has been a local favorite in my family ever since I can remember. I can recall my parents ordering dinner growing up and even taking me trick or treating as a little girl on Halloween to get a free slice. B.C.’s in Lincoln Park is making some delicious pies, subs, salads, and more.

Steak & Cheese Sub: Exactly how a steak & cheese sub should taste. The bread is slightly crusty on the outside, but chewy on the inside. The steak is juicy and tender and the fresh toppings perfectly compliment the salty steak.

Image

Superstix: Superstix have been a favorite of mine for years. They are B.C.’s version of cheese sticks, and I like to refer to them as pizza deconstructed. I get them with pepperoni and cheese and they come with pizza sauce for dipping. I almost like them better than a slice of pizza, because they are the perfect couple bites of crispy crust, browned cheese, and spicy pepperoni and I can control how much sauce I get.

Image

Pizza: One of my favorite pizza’s is topped with mild pepper rings, pineapple, & Italian sausage. The dough at B.C.’s is cooked perfectly every time and is light, yet has a chewiness to it. With every bite you get the spiciness from the sausage, sweetness from the pineapple, and bite from the mild pepper ring. It’s great.

B.C.’s offers up some delicious food at an affordable price. They also have a rewards program that can be used towards free food. B.C.’s is one of the best pizza spots around and the fact that they are local and have been in business for over 25 years is even better. If you haven’t been, you are missing out. They also have one of the easiest phone #’s ever: 313-388-3888 so you will never forget. Smart B.C.’s!
