Mickey’s Pizza

Today on the Bite Tonight: Mickey’s Pizza.

Located on Fort St. in Lincoln Park, MI, Mickey’s Pizza has been a local favorite for as long as I can remember. As a child, I loved traveling to Mickey’s with my parents to pick up our pie and watch as the professionals toss the hand made dough up in the air from behind the clear glass window. A few weeks ago, my mom and I were craving that Mickey’s taste, so we ordered a pizza. See how they ranked.

Atmosphere: 3 out of 5 bites (typical carry out setting, no dining area)

Price: 4 out of 5 bites

Quality/Taste: 4.5 out of 5 bites

Service: 4.5 out of bites

Wow Factor: 4 out of 5 bites (local, mom and pop joint)

Hand tossed round: Topped with Pepperoni, onion, and green pepper with a garlic, butter, Parmesan flavored crust. The dough was perfectly cooked with a nice chew, and not greasy or soggy. Fresh ingredients and the right amount of cheese. The flavored crust was delicious and I really liked how the cheese was browned up.

Mickeys pizza

I will admit that when it comes to pizza, my favorites include B.C’s and Hungry Howie’s (yea, yea I know, a franchise)?? However, Mickey’s Pizza is a top contender. Service is good, food is even better, and the price is spot on. Plus, it’s a family owned business that has been serving the area for over 20 years. They offer coupons, delivery, and have a menu consisting of pizza, salads, grinders, and their famous Amiga bread. The only downfall is that there isn’t a website so it’s tough to find an online menu. However, their Cajun flavored crust is the best I’ve ever had! If you haven’t tried Mickey’s Pizza, you’re missing out. It’s the perfect guest for Football Sunday!

Hungry Howie's Pizza

Today on the Bite Tonight: Hungry Howie’s Pizza

I’ve featured Hungry Howie’s before, but my latest visit was so successful that I just had to post again. By viewing their website, I realized Hungry Howie’s has a lot of different menu options to suit your palette. Check it out.

Pepperoni, Onion, & Pineapple Pizza: With Bold and Spicy sauce and BBQ & Butter flavored crust (You need the butter so the BBQ seasoning will adhere better). I was leery on the crust, but it actually went really well with the sauce and toppings. Subtle spice with a solid flavor. The BBQ crust was sweet and was delicious with the pepperoni. I don’t know how I missed this sauce choice, but if you haven’t tried it, get it ASAP!

pepp and ham

Ham and Pineapple Pizza: Double pineapple with butter, garlic, Parmesan flavored crust. Josh has been on a “pineapple on his pizza” kick lately and the double pineapple was awesome. The combo of sweet and salty really pairs well. And who doesn’t love butter, garlic, and Parmesan crust?

Josh and I ventured a little bit out of our pizza comfort zone and it paid off! We got one “normal” pizza and one “wild” pizza. I really like Hungry Howie’s because everything is always delicious, fresh, and fast. They offer multiple flavored crust options, an array of toppings, calzones, salads, wings, and oven baked Howie rolls. A wild Saturday night is not drinking until you’re hungover, but ordering something wacky on your pizza! Be wild.

Game Day

For the Superbowl Josh and I decided to play it safe and order pizza. I am a huge fan of Hungry Howie’s mainly because of the delicious flavored crust. And what goes better with game day then pizza? Check it out.

New Asiago Cheese Bread: Subtle Asiago cheese flavor, buttery, and cheesy. Pretty good and a good change from the classic 3 Cheeser Bread.

It even tasted great dipped in nacho cheese (store bought, not from Hungry Howie’s) and even reminded me of high school lunch.

Ham & Pepperoni with Garlic Butter Cheese Crust: Delicious, cheesy, garlicy, buttery. I love that the cheese doesn’t slide off the whole piece of pizza when you take a bite.

I also made shredded chicken in a crock pot for tacos and nachos. The pictures didn’t turn out that good so I’m not posting any.

Here’s the recipe:

Crock Pot Shredded ChickenĀ

1. Combine 2 chicken breasts, 1 packet of taco seasoning, 1/2 diced onion, 1/4 cup of chicken broth, 1/2 jar of your favorite salsa, cumin, garlic, salt and pepper in a crock pot.

2. Set it on high heat for 4-6 hours or until it pulls apart and tastes great.

3. Add more seasoning if desired.

Tip: Great for tacos, nachos, or even as a topping on homemade pizza.

As disappointing of a game, at least the food was good.
